National Park Strategy
Austria 2020+

Common objectives

Our National Parks protect special natural landscapes and unique habitats. To ensure the continuous development of these important institutions, a joint National Park Strategy 2020+ was established for the first time in 2010.
In 2017, this a strategic basis was adapted in cooperation between the federal government, represented by the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, the provinces of Burgenland, Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol and Vienna, and the eight National Park administrations in Austria. Focal points are, among other things, the intensified allowing of a free development of nature uninfluenced by humans, the preservation of biodiversity as well as the use of synergies between the national parks and their umbrella organization.

Supported by the Federal Government and the European Union.
