The idea

Responsible for
nature protection

From steppe lake to high mountains, from forest wilderness to floodplains, from raging river to gentle valley: As internationally recognised protected areas (category II), the six Austrian national parks preserve landscapes of wild beauty and enormous species richness. But their tasks include much more than just nature conservation. They are also important research centres, popular recreational areas and important actors in the field of environmental education.

Umbrella Organisation

Nationalparks
Austria

The umbrella organisation of National Parks Austria combines the many voices of the national park landscape into a choir: acting in concert through the Management Board, comprised of the directors of the eight Austrian National Park administrations, the non-profit association has promoted the dynamic development of the protected areas and implemented joint projects as well as the well-publicised communication of shared concerns since 2011. Close cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility and Technology (BMK) gives the common voice an additional boost.

Support is also provided by the National Park Advisory Board, made up of representatives of regional states and NGOs, which constitutes a consultative and evaluative body.
