Nationalparks Austria

Anyone visiting the national parks should take plenty of time - time to look, be amazed, observe and allow nature to work its magic on you. The best place to start is by travelling on foot, by bike or by public transport. With ÖBB, you can travel directly to our national parks in a sustainable, relaxed and safe way.

The Crown Prince Rudolf railway has been running through the Gesäuse for around 150 years. This makes the Gesäuse National Park the only national park in Austria through which a direct railway line runs!

Enjoy a stress-free and congestion-free journey to the Kalkalpen National Park region by bus and train: Take the train to Windischgarsten and the Enns Valley (Reichraming and Großraming) and the bus to Molln.

From the nearest railway station in Retz, take the bus directly to the National Park Centre in Hardegg.

The journey tool on the national park's website shows the quickest route by car or bike, public transport and on foot.

Public transport to the Donau-Auen National Park is available on the north bank of the Danube (Groß-Enzersdorf, Schönau, Orth/Donau, Eckartsau, Stopfenreuth) and to the schlossORTH National Park Centre via the VOR-Regiobus lines. On the south bank, you can reach the National Park via the S7 express railway line in the direction of Wolfsthal. There are stops in Maria Ellend, Haslau, Regelsbrunn, Petronell and Hainburg. From Haslau it is possible to cross the Danube to Orth/Donau with the passenger ferry.

In our hiking guide National Parks by Rail, we have collected 13 varied tours in all 6 Austrian national parks that are easily accessible by public transport. There are hikes suitable for families as well as long-distance routes lasting several days. The tours were selected together with the ÖBB and are presented in a clear and organised way: the new hiking guide contains all the relevant information, from how to get there to tour descriptions, sights and accommodation options. In addition, all the routes presented are linked to the Rother app using a QR code and can be conveniently accessed on the go.
