Gstatterboden National Park Pavilion
This pavilion is close to the only camping site in the national park and easily accessible by train. Thus, it has become the most important meeting point for visitors who want to admire the natural jewels of the Gesaeuse without driving their cars.
This modern building located at the heart of the Gesaeuse National Park comprises a restaurant area, an information point with a shop, and a multi-media and interactive exhibition on geology. The geological exhibition
A fascinating multi-media exhibition on geology under the motto of “Understanding the Gesaeuse Landscape“attracts the visitors, and combines science with an experience of nature.
The exhibition offers eight stops where you can learn about and get a feeling for the geology and the historic development of the Gesaeuse (river Enns gorge region). A virtual guide will introduce you to the geological situation and peculiarities of the Gesaeuse National Park. The basic knowledge needed to understand the history and development of the surrounding mountain area is communicated in an entertaining way.
During a virtual climbing tour you may prove that you are free from giddiness; on skis you can go down an ice-age glacier at high speed, and, finally, you will be thrilled by an impressive flight over the national park in a virtual hang glider.
All this will provide you with lasting and most fascinating insights into the phenomena of the development of the Gesaeuse landscape along the river Enns gorge. After this exciting experience you will reach the restaurant area where the tremendous view of the steep Planspitze precipices will round off your visit in an overwhelming way.
The exhibition is part of the “Geoline” project compound of the “Leader+ Region Gesaeuse/Eisenwurzen“ initiative.
